Bell Potter presents VOICES, our inaugural virtual conference connecting the leading voices in investment management with advisers and investors. Through a programme of thought-provoking and informative conversations, VOICES is designed to share lessons from the past, understand what’s happening right now and identify opportunities looking ahead to 2021.

Recently inducted in to the Australian Fund Managers Hall of Fame, Phil has been recognised as one of Australia’s “most astute readers of the share market” and “shrewdest fund managers”.

Geoff has over 40 years’ direct experience in investment markets having held a variety of senior investment roles in Australia, the UK and the US. Geoff founded Wilson Asset Management in 1997. Geoff created Australia’s first listed philanthropic wealth creation vehicles, Future Generation Investment Company and Future Generation Global Investment Company. Geoff is Chairman of WAM Capital (ASX: WAM), WAM Leaders (ASX: WLE), WAM Global (ASX: WGB), WAM Research (ASX: WAX), WAM Active (ASX: WAA) and WAM Microcap (ASX: WMI). Geoff holds a number of additional directorships with investment companies and non-profit organisations.

Paul has over 40 years of financial services experience with companies such as Westpac Banking Corporation’s Investment Management Division, Mercantile & General and Legal & General Asset Management. Paul’s career includes senior roles in management, investment and portfolio management in the funds management industry. In 1997, Paul co-founded Ausbil where he holds the position of Executive Chairman, Chief Investment Officer and Head of Equities. Paul has been instrumental in building the funds under management at Ausbil to over $12 billion. Paul’s role includes strategy, portfolio construction and input into the investment management of Ausbil’s funds. Paul is a member and Chairman of Ausbil’s Portfolio Construction Committee.

Mr David Aylward

David Aylward is the Chief Executive Officer of Tribeca Investment Partners where he is responsible for providing day to day leadership and setting strategic direction for the firm. With an investment career spanning over 30 years, David also co-manages the Tribeca Smaller Companies Strategy, one of Australia’s longest running active strategies focused on the smaller capitalization equities. Earlier in his career, David spent eight years as an equity analyst within the Australian equity team at Armstrong Jones and later as Head of Equity Research at Henderson Charlton Jones, an affiliate of Credit Suisse. In 1998, David co-founded Jenkins Investment Management, the forerunner to Tribeca Investment Partners, subsequently taking over the role of Managing Director upon the retirement of co-founder Paul Jenkins. David is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Jun Bei Liu is the Portfolio Manager of the Tribeca Alpha Plus Fund, one of Australia’s longest running equity long short funds. Jun Bei Liu is a passionate investor with over 18 years of Investment experience covering a large range of sectors, an effective public speaker about her investment views and a regular participant in prestigious conferences such as Sohn. The last 14 years of Jun Bei’s career has been with Tribeca and prior to Tribeca, Jun Bei spent four years as an investment analyst covering the Australian consumer sectors at Morningstar and Foster Stockbroking. Jun Bei is a native Chinese speaker and regularly travels to China and visits other Asian markets as part of her Investment Research, and she actively insights the companies that she invests in. Jun Bei is also a CFA charter holder and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Andrew commenced with Perennial in July 2008 as a Senior Analyst with the Small Cap team. In 2010 Andrew became a portfolio manager on the Smaller Companies Fund and shared this responsibility until November 2017 when he became Head of Smaller Companies & Micro Caps.

Paras Anand is Chief Investment Officer, Asia Pacific at Fidelity International. In his role, Paras is responsible for working across all asset classes to determine regional priorities, catalyse innovation and represent the function to external bodies such as regulators and policy makers. He leads global initiatives such as systematic investment strategies and use of data, analytics and artificial intelligence in the investment process and is responsible globally for ESG, Corporate Finance and Equity Capital Markets.

Ellerston Asian Investments, Ellerston Asia Growth Fund & Ellerston India Fund

Mary is a member of the investment team and is a Portfolio Manager for the Ellerston Asia Growth Fund, Ellerston Asian Investments (ASX:EAI) and the Ellerston India Fund. Mary has over 20 year’s investment management expertise and joined Ellerston in 2012. Prior to joining Ellerston Capital, Mary worked at Oaktree Capital in New York and Singapore. Mary also worked as an investment analyst at Soros Fund Management in New York, the investment vehicle of George Soros. She focused on investments in the financial sector in the US, Asia, including Japan and Europe. Mary has a PhD in Economics from the University of Sydney, an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University Of Calgary, Canada.

Ned has over 21 year’s investment experience. Ned gained his stock selection and portfolio construction skills while working in Boston, San Francisco and Washington.  Ned joined Bell Asset Management in Dec 2000 to manage client equity portfolios, formulate and design the Investment Philosophy and Investment Style.  Ned has primary research coverage responsibilities for Materials and Telecoms sectors along with secondary responsibilities over Industrials and Health Care sectors. Prior to joining BAM, Ned worked for Loomis Sayles in the US as an Equities Analyst and Portfolio Manager. Ned also worked for Bell Commodities as a futures dealer on the trading floor of the SFE. Ned has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) degree from Bond University in Dec 1995.

Mr Peter Quinton

Peter Quinton joined Bell Potter in 2000 as Head of Research Services. He has over 45 years’ experience in stockbroking, encompassing a number of senior management positions centred on writing and marketing reports on investment strategy and asset allocation. In Peter’s career he has been Head of Research at Colonial Stockbroking and Director/Chief Investment Strategist at ABN AMRO after the merger with BZW. Prior to this, Peter was Director/Chief Investment Strategist at ANZ Securities for six years where he regularly attained fifth or sixth place for investment strategy advice in institutional surveys.
In the 1980’s, Peter was a Director/Partner at Roach & Co, occupying the positions of General Manager, Institutions and Director of Research. In 1987, the year of the share market crash, he won the highest ranking for an Australian Strategist in an international survey. Peter is a Senior Fellow of The Financial Services Institute of Australasia and an Affiliate of the Australian Stock Exchange. He is a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Melbourne) and holds a post-graduate degree in management.

Barry has had over 40 years’ experience in fixed income markets in Australia. He has worked at many organisations including ANZ Savings Bank; official money market dealer Short Term Discount Limited as a bond trader; and established the fixed income capabilities for the retail stockbroking division of Citibank, which has evolved into Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Over 20 years, his roles have included fixed income portfolio advising, research analysis, bond trading and product development.

Dr Laura Ryan

Dr Laura Ryan is Head of Research at Ardea and is responsible for both the Client Solutions and Portfolio Research teams. Laura is an internationally published academic with papers appearing in ‘The Journal of Portfolio Management’ and ‘The Journal of Forecasting’, among others. Previously, Laura was Senior Vice President (Quantitative Research) and a member of the Australian senior management team at PIMCO. With 21 years investment experience, Laura’s other roles include Manager of Quantitative Strategy at Commonwealth Bank, Quantitative Manager at AMP Capital and Lecturer in Statistics at the Australian National University (ANU). Laura holds a Ph.D. in statistics from the ANU, a Master of Quantitative Finance from the University of Technology Sydney and an Honours degree in Actuarial Studies from the ANU.

Andrew has more than 30 years’ banking, funds management and financial markets experience specialising in leverage and acquisition finance as well as corporate and institutional lending. Andrew’s considerable experience includes being responsible for the origination and portfolio risk management of large, diversified and complex loan portfolios including corporate restructurings. Andrew holds the Bachelor of Business and Master of Business Administration qualifications from the Queensland University of Technology. In 2019, Andrew was appointed Chair of the Australian branch of the Alternative Credit Council, which is a sub-committee of the Alternative Investment Management Association.

Mr Vivek Bommi

Vivek Bommi, CFA, Managing Director, joined the firm in 2007. Vivek is a Senior Portfolio Manager on Global and European non-investment grade portfolios. In addition, he sits on the Credit Committee for high yield bonds and senior floating rate loans. Prior to joining the firm, Vivek worked in the leverage finance groups at The Carlyle Group and Banc of America Securities. He started his career as an investment analyst at Intel Capital. Vivek earned a BS from the University of Illinois, an MBA from Columbia Business School, has been awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr Alex Waislitz is Executive Chairman and Founder of Thorney Investment Group, a Melbourne Australia based diversified investor in public securities, private companies and property. Thorney specialises in emerging companies across a broad array of industries including Manufacturing, Technology, Mining Services and Resources. Alex is also Chairman of Thorney Opportunities Limited, and Thorney Technologies Limited, both ASX-listed investment companies, and Vice President of Collingwood Football Club. In 2014 Alex established the Waislitz Foundation with the aim of donating $50 million to charity.  He is a graduate of Monash University in Law and Commerce and a Graduate of the Harvard Business School OPM Program.

Prior to founding Karst Peak in 2012, Adam ran the Asia office of Tiger Management, the family office of Julian Robertson. Adam reported directly to Mr. Robertson and was responsible for identifying and vetting public and private equity investment opportunities in Asia. Prior to Tiger Management, Adam worked at Glacier Bay Capital and O.S.S. Capital Management.

Andy assumed full portfolio management responsibility for the Australian Shares Fund in April 2008, although he has been responsible for the small cap component of the Trust since August 2006, while joining Australian Ethical in December 2004. Andy has worked in investment management for over 20 years commencing his career at Colonial Mutual NZ as a research analyst and then a domestic equity analyst.  Andy graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Business Studies (Economics and Finance with an honours degree in Finance) in 1991.

Leah is the Head of Client Relationships at Australian Ethical Investment, Australia’s leading ethical superannuation fund and investment manager with over $4bn in funds under management.

Mr Darko Kuzmanovic
Senior Portfolio Manager
Janus Henderson Global Natural Resources Fund

Darko Kuzmanovic is a Senior Portfolio Manager at Janus Henderson Investors, a position he has held since 2019. Darko manages a global resources fund and has extensive experience in global resources markets. Before joining Henderson as a portfolio manager in 2015, he was a partner and portfolio manager at Caledonia Resources Management and a portfolio manager at Colonial First State. Prior to that, he was a portfolio manager at David Tice and Associates in Vancouver and a member of the global resources team at Zurich Scudder. Darko received a bachelor of metallurgical engineering degree (Hons) from the University of New South Wales and an executive MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management. He has 34 years of natural resources experience.
